Kim Ji Won Eyes Lead as Korea's First Female Detective in "Detective Park Mi Ok"

Kim Ji Won In Talks To Play Korea’s First Female Detective In New Drama

Kim Ji Won is reviewing an offer to headline “Detective Park Mi Ok,” a new series from acclaimed writer Chung Seo Kyung and director Kim Hee Won, the duo behind Disney+’s Tempest.

Inspired by the real-life trailblazer Park Mi Ok, the drama would chronicle the rise of Korea’s first female detective and the barriers she broke in a male-dominated field.

Industry reports indicate that an early script draft has been delivered to Kim Ji Won. Her agency, HighZium Studio, confirmed the offer and shared that the project is under consideration.

Chung Seo Kyung is celebrated for co-writing Park Chan-wook’s films Lady Vengeance, The Handmaiden, and Decision to Leave, and for emotionally rich dramas including Mother, Little Women, and Tempest.

Meanwhile, Kim Ji Won is reportedly gearing up to begin filming the medical drama “Doctor X: Age of the White Mafia” later this year—signaling a packed schedule ahead.

If finalized, Detective Park Mi Ok could be a defining turn for Kim Ji Won—uniting prestige creators, a history-making heroine, and a fresh lens on Korea’s crime genre.
