TAEYANG Quintessence is Coming: The 4th Full Album, BLUE DAWN and PINK RADIANCE Versions, and Why a 9-Year Wait Means Everything

Nine years since WHITE NIGHT. Three years since Down to Earth. TAEYANG returns with his fourth full album, and it's already shaping up to be the comeback of the year.

POB UNTIL 14 MAY

Right, so let's talk about it. TAEYANG (yes, that TAEYANG, the one whose vocals carried half of BIGBANG's discography) is dropping his fourth full album QUINTESSENCE on 18 May 2026 at 6PM KST. That's 10AM BST for us in the UK. And before you ask: yes, it absolutely is his birthday. He's giving the album to the fandom and to himself. Iconic behaviour.

If the maths feels off, that's because it should. This is his first full album in nine years (WHITE NIGHT was August 2017), and his first new music in three years (Down to Earth was April 2023). VIPs have been waiting. Patiently. Mostly. The good news is the wait has a serious payoff.

The concept: what's QUINTESSENCE actually about

Quintessence (noun): the most perfect example of something. The pure, distilled essence. Aristotle's fifth element, the one that made up the heavens. Heavy stuff for an album title, and TAEYANG isn't using it lightly.

The teaser dropped with a single line: 가장 중요한 것은 보이지 않는다. The most important things are invisible. The cover takes that even further: two silver-chrome angels, wings curving into the shape of a Q, suspended against deep cobalt blue. It's biblical in scale, almost sculptural, and it sets the tone for what TAEYANG himself has called a more focused chapter.

"Down to Earth was about Dong Youngbae the human. QUINTESSENCE is about TAEYANG the artist."

In his W Korea interview, TAEYANG framed it exactly this way. The 2023 EP was personal, introspective, grounded. This album steps back into the artist identity with bigger sound, bigger collaborators, bigger questions. He's worked with longtime producers and brought in new ones, and the trailer (released 4 May) shows civilisations rising and crowds forming the letter Q before two angels lift skyward. It's giving cinematic. It's giving thesis statement.

The tracklist drop

The album confirms one title track and two B-side features that nobody saw coming. "Live Fast Die Slow" is the lead single, a thesis-statement title that already feels like a TAEYANG signature. The two B-sides bring in a global pop name and the most-watched coed group of 2026.

CONFIRMED

Would You

B-SIDE

"Open Up" with The Kid LAROI is the headline collaboration here, and it's the kind of feature that signals exactly what kind of crossover album this is meant to be. "Would You" with Tarzzan and Woochan brings it back home to THE BLACK LABEL roster. Three confirmed tracks, three completely different worlds. TAEYANG's full discography in one album.

The features: this lineup is wild

This is where things get properly interesting. The features confirmed for QUINTESSENCE bridge global pop with the next wave of K-pop, and it's the kind of crossover only TAEYANG could pull off:

The Kid LAROI
Australian Pop
Woochan
ALLDAY PROJECT
Tarzzan
ALLDAY PROJECT

The Kid LAROI is a major signal. This is the first time TAEYANG has brought a Western pop artist of this scale onto a solo record. Pair that with Woochan and Tarzzan from ALLDAY PROJECT, his THE BLACK LABEL labelmates and arguably the most-watched coed group of 2026, and you've got a tracklist that's actively building cross-fandom appeal. It ate, frankly.

The Coachella factor

Here's the thing about timing. TAEYANG didn't just drop a comeback. He set it up across two of the biggest festival weekends in the world. BIGBANG headlined the Outdoor Theatre at Coachella 2026 on 12 and 19 April, marking the group's first full-scale performance since 2017 and their festival debut after the cancelled 2020 booking. Billboard called the influence undeniable. Forbes confirmed the 20th anniversary world tour straight after.

The setlist spanned twenty years in an hour. "BANG BANG BANG" detonated the Outdoor Theatre, "Still Life" hit a different register entirely, and "SOBER" reminded everyone exactly why TAEYANG's vocal sits at the centre of every BIGBANG arrangement. G-Dragon told the crowd "B to the I to the G to the Bang is back" during weekend one, and the announcement of the BIGSHOW: REBORN world tour landed on stage by weekend two. TAEYANG closed Coachella, flew home, and went straight into solo album rollout.

Why this comeback hits different

For UK and Europe-based VIPs, this is the comeback that actually feels like ours. The album is in English-friendly streaming everywhere, the features cross continents, and the timing means we get it during a sane hour for once. 10AM BST on a Monday, perfect album-day energy with your morning coffee.

And then there's the layered context. BIGBANG turned 20. TAEYANG is pulling triple duty: group legacy at Coachella, solo artistry on QUINTESSENCE, and the BIGSHOW: REBORN world tour starting August 2026 spanning Asia, North America, Europe and Oceania through spring 2027. Three years of waiting, and now everything lands at once. He's making it look effortless. It absolutely is not. From Eyes Nose Lips a decade ago to QUINTESSENCE today, the throughline holds: TAEYANG's voice has always done the heavy lifting, and he's just chosen new altitudes.
